Rennbow is a project created by the Porsche Club of America and launched in June of 2019 to categorize and identify Porsche automobile colors.
Rennbow contains the largest collection of Porsche images on the web organized by color. The site started with approximately 500 images and now has over 6,400 mainly user submitted images!
With Rennbow, users can research an individual Porsche color, from historic to present day colors. Users can also post their own images for others to see. The database includes nearly every color ever offered by Porsche.
It has an incredible user interface that shows you the rainbow spectrum of Porsche colors but also allows you to search colors by name, by year, or by model. Once you select a color, the Rennbow “wiki” as it’s called, shows a photo of a car in that color along with a gallery of photos that users have posted – PLUS it provides tons of information including paint/color codes, the alternative “German” name for that color, the relative rarity of that color along with some color commentary.
Using a clever scale ranging from 1-5, the rarity of the color is displayed in terms of paint cans. One paint can is reserved for the most common colors, 2-4 are somewhere in between and five paint cans indicates the rarest of the rare colors.
The concept for Rennbow was the inspiration of Rob Sass, the Director of Content for the Porsche Club of America. “It was simply a reflection of the fact that Porsche enthusiasts have historically been and remain obsessed with color. The topic makes up a large share of the conversations on many Porsche forums and chat rooms, and the Porsche Paint-to-Sample program continues to capture the imagination of a huge swath of Porsche enthusiasts.“
Executive Director, Vu Nguyen also worked on the project with Marketing Director Jim Hemig who currently maintains it. Members and non-members of the PCA continue to submit images daily to the site.
“Inaccuracies are fairly rampant in many discussions around color, we hope that Rennbow can be a resource, and help answer a few questions, and maybe dispel a myth or two,” says Sass. “It’s a great source of ideas for anyone exploring the possibility of ordering a PTS car. With multiple images, (in many cases across multiple model ranges) taken under a diverse set of light conditions, people can get a pretty good idea as to the actual character of a color.“
Rennbow provides Porsche enthusiasts with a superb tool for researching or identifying a color with fun and easy to use interface and is just another great resource provided by the Porsche Club of America. Plus, it’s great just looking at photos of pretty Porsches of every color!
