The TRG empire headed by owner Kevin Buckler takes a big bite out of the racing world this weekend. Hoping to leave lasting impressions, TRG will run eight cars in four different series, spanning from California’s Monterey Peninsula through Kentucky and onto the rolling hills of Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. The team has cars entered in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, American Le Mans Series (ALMS), Grand-Am and the IMSA Challenge Cup, all will be racing on the same day – Saturday, July 9.
At one end of the country in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron, TRG will run five cars in the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. Duncan Ende and Spencer Pumpelly will share the No. 66 Racer’s Roast Fox River Coffee/TRG/Porsche with Dion von Moltke and Porsche Club of America (PCA) standout Mike Piera driving the No. 68 South African Airways/ PR Newswire/TRG/Porsche completing two TRG entries in the main event.
In the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series also running at Lime Rock, TRG will field three front running cars with the No. 11 Parathyroid/TRG/Porsche for Jim Norman, the No. 14 Verax/TRG/Porsche for Randy Oswald, and the No. 75 Capital Managers/Axis of Oversteer/TRG/Porsche for Carlos Gomez.
At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, team owner Kevin Buckler will be blowing the dust off his racing shoes and getting behind the wheel of the No. 4 Children’s Tumor Foundation/TRG/Porsche GT3 Cup for the Grand-Am Road Racing Series Continental Tire Sports Car Festival Powered by Mazda. Buckler is teamed with Daniel Graeff who finished a very competitive eighth in this year’s Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona in the same ride.
Also at Laguna Seca, TRG Grand-Am regular Steve Bertheau will be driving with Ryan Eversley in the No. 67 Sargent & Lundy/TRG Porsche GT3 Cup. Bertheau is coming off of a near win, but had to settle for a podium finish of third at the last event at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s Road America. The race will be televised, tape delayed, on the SPEED Channel the next day, July 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series TRG Motorsports No. 71 Cool Works Cup Ford Fusion driven by Andy Lally will be making their first ever visit to Kentucky Speedway, located in Sparta, for the Quaker State 400. Lally is coming off of a career best qualifying effort at Daytona where he started last weekend’s Coke Zero 400 from the fourth row. The team will take to the track on Thursday as the series is granting an extra practice day. The race will be televised live on TNT, Saturday, July 9 starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. The event can be heard on affiliated PRN (Performance Racing Network) stations and Sirius XM Satellite Radio 90.
Kevin Buckler, team owner, will be driving and managing the operation on both coasts and in between this weekend. “WOW, what a weekend we have ahead of us,” Buckler said. “We are running seven Porsches at Lime Rock and Laguna Seca and Andy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Kentucky. All eight cars will be racing on the same day! We have our hands full, but we have been preparing for this for a while and our team has a good handle on every detail and we hope to have a lot of success across the country over the next three days. I am getting back behind the wheel and will also have my Sprint phone and e-mail going full blast as well as monitoring the broadcasts to keep apprised of everything we have going.”
