According to a recent report from Autoweek, high-ranking officials at Porsche’s Weissach research and development center in Germany have confirmed that work is progressing on a new four-cylinder horizontally opposed gasoline engine.
The Autoweek report claims two versions of the new engine are under development: a base 2.0-liter and larger 2.5-liter unit. The 2.5-liter unit is said to make up to 380 hp in its highest state of tune and could possibly feature a turbo charger and direct injection.
The new engine which is rumored to be the powerplant of a new entry level model that has been called the “Baby Boxster” and described as a successor to the iconic 550 Spyder, could power the entry level vehicles in Porsche’s future line-up.
