Stuttgart – Nov. 14, 2010 – The successful partnership between the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the FIA Formula 1 World Championship will continue: The world’s fastest international brand trophy series will race as support to the top league of motorsport until 2013. The new contract will be signed in the lead-up to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend by Wolfgang Dürheimer, Board Member for Research and Development at Porsche AG, and Patrick McNally, CEO of Allsport Management SA.
“We’re proud of the successful liaison with Formula 1. The Porsche Mobil1 Supercup has developed superbly on this premium platform and has produced many world class drivers who today enjoy great success particularly in long distance racing,” says Wolfgang Dürheimer. Patrick McNally is also pleased that the long and successful cooperation is continuing for the next three years. “The Porsche Mobil1 Supercup is an important element of the Formula 1 race weekends, and always provides spectators with gripping motorsport at a very high level.”
As the flagship of the 19 Porsche brand trophy series worldwide, the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, as the only GT championship, has run alongside Formula 1 and has been supporting the FIA Formula One World Championship since 1993. It is a professional and high-ranking race series which is firmly established and enjoys appreciation with insiders and the public alike.
In the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, on average 18 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 997) model race cars, a limited edition especially developed by Porsche AG, get on the track.
The high-ranking participants, including a mixture of famous driver personalities and ambitious, talented young drivers put their abilities to the test on Race Sunday before the Formula One race.
