News that that Porsche is expected to move its North American headquarters and hundreds of jobs from Sandy Springs to the old Ford plant site near Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport has recently surfaced.
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga. is the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche sports cars, the Cayenne SUV and Panamera Gran Turismo. Established in 1984, it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, and employs approximately 220 people who provide parts, service, marketing and training for 196 dealers.
Currently, Porsche occupies about 2 1/2 floors of the 14-story tower in Lakeside Commons in the Sandy Springs part of Atlanta. The rumored site is the former Ford plant site, which was closed in 2006, and is located close to Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport.
As part of the plan, Porsche is expected to build offices where the plant was demolished and a build a test track similar to its Porsche Silverstone facility in England.
Porsche’s move wouldn’t happen right away. It is likely to take several years, as the office building and track would be built from scratch. The company’s current lease was set to expire in 2013.
