When Brumos Racing decided to make the move to GRAND-AM Rolex Series GT competition for 2011, the team knew many challenges lay ahead. Now that their inaugural season has reached mid-point, every member of the Brumos team can be proud of all they have accomplished. While new teams typically spend much of their first season laying the foundation to become competitive, in the six-race span that constitutes the halfway point for this season, Brumos has already earned their first podium, followed by their first win, and have proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Now, as the second half of the season gets underway, the championship race is far from decided. The Brumos #59 Porsche 911 is just three points out of first place, heading to Road America with the momentum of their Watkins Glen win behind them.
The upcoming race will mark the first visit by to Road America by the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series since 2001. While this makes it a new track for many of the Rolex Series competitors, Brumos Racing has seen success at the historic track in years gone by. One notable win for Brumos was in 1991, when Hurley Haywood drove a familiar white, red and blue Brumos #59 Porsche Turbo to a SuperCar win there. Current day Brumos driver Andrew Davis is also familiar with the Elkhart Lake track, having raced there most recently in 2000. “I’m really excited that the GRAND-AM Rolex Series put Road America back on our schedule,” he said. “It is one of the classic tracks of North America and requires a combination of skills. It has a very long, high speed straightaway that will make things very interesting. The fans in that area are well educated about motorsports and always enthusiastic, so it will be a lot of fun to have Brumos return and get our #59 Porsche 911 back out on track. I know our guys will have the car race-ready and we plan to make the most of our test day, capitalize on our momentum, and put on a good show for all our fans there.”
2009 Rolex Series GT Champion Leh Keen has driven at Road America as a participant in One Lap of America competition, but the upcoming Rolex Series race will mark his professional debut on the historic Wisconsin course. “I have always wanted to race at Road America,” Keen said. “Our entire team is really pumped up after our first win at the Glen, and we are ready to show everyone that we are serious contenders for the championship. We will really be concentrating on points now, and every race is critical. This track lends itself to some great racing, and I think our Porsche will do really well there.” Keen sees an additional advantage, adding, “As a new team to GT this year, Brumos does not have previous years of data like many of our competitors. Road America will be new to all of us, so that will be a good equalizer. We are really excited to kick off the second half of our season and expect to deliver another great finish.”
The Rolex Sports Car Series 250 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, will be held on Saturday, June 25th, beginning at Noon ET. The two-hour timed raced will be broadcast live on SPEED TV.
