As the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season winds down for 2011, Brumos Racing has given their fans many reasons to feel proud. The Jacksonville, FL based team has worked tirelessly throughout the year, developing from a startup GT effort into a respected competitor in their class. Preparations are now underway for Round 10 as Rolex Series competition returns to Watkins Glen. Brumos particularly looks forward to revisiting the Glen, the scene of their triumphant first GT win this season. Following a difficult race at New Jersey, every member of the Brumos team is well aware of just how critical it will be to have another strong showing at the Glen. Holding onto first place in the standings by the narrowest of margins – one point – Brumos is ready to race and determined to give it their all.
Unlike the previous Six Hour race, the Watkins Glen 200 will be a two-hour timed sprint race held on the Glen’s short course. Although quite different from a six hour endurance race, Brumos driver Leh Keen has been successful in both formats, following up a 2nd place finish in 2009 with a win on the short course in 2010. This season the 2009 Rolex Series GT Champion rounded out his list of Glen victories with the memorable Brumos GT win in June. “The short course is actually one of my favorites,” Keen said. “Watkins Glen is one of my favorite tracks in general, but the short course is much more of a high speed track. I will miss driving through the boot, but I really like being able to go into the corners at a much higher speed. I always love going back to the Watkins Glen area – I have been very successful my last few years there and I am confident the Brumos # 59 Porsche 911 GT3 will do well there this year, too, so I am definitely looking forward to it.”
Andrew Davis shares his co-driver’s enthusiasm, saying, “I know that all of us are really excited about returning to Watkins Glen with the memory of our first win still so fresh in everyone’s mind. It has long been a historic track for Brumos, but Leh and I have also had some great results there of our own. We will be fighting hard to keep our lead in the standings and are happy we can take that fight to a track where we have proven we can be successful. The short course is different, but it still has a lot of the specific turns that really give the Glen its character. Like Leh, what I enjoy most on the short course is that it makes for such a fast-paced race. It is actually one of the highest average speed tracks we run on all season. The traffic comes by much more quickly on the shorter course so there is no time to rest. It will be very challenging, but Leh and I will give it our best. With the entire team working so well together now, I know we are up for the challenge. We are all looking forward to returning to Watkins Glen and ready to kick off this final stretch of our 2011 season.”
The Watkins Glen 200 will take place on Saturday, August 13th, with a start time of 6:00 PM ET. The 2.0 hour race will be held on the Glen’s short 2.45 mile course and is scheduled for live broadcast on SPEED TV.
