Divide and conquer is the new game plan for Starworks Motorsport.
After running Alex Popow and Enzo Potolicchio together throughout the current season, the team will split up the two first-year Venezuelans for Saturday’s Canadian Tire 200 at Watkins Glen – while adding a former Daytona Prototype champion to the team.
Jorg Bergmeister – the 2006 DP titlist – will share the No. 2 Starworks Porsche/Riley with Potolicchio, while Popow will team with Ryan Dalziel in the team’s No. 8 Ford/Riley. Both cars are sponsored by Duncan/Brazilinvest.
“With Jorg having an off-weekend, this was a great opportunity to get a Porsche factory driver and a proven DP winner,” said Starworks owner Peter Baron. “Our team is still new to the Porsche power plant, and Jorg won the pole for the Rolex 24 with a similar Porsche engine. It will also give Jorg the opportunity to work again with Stefan Pfeiffer, currently an engineer with Starworks Motorsport, who was previously his engineer with Flying Lizard Motorsports. They worked together for nine years and won multiple championships.”
Bergmeister captured the pole for the Rolex 24 At Daytona in his lone Rolex Series appearance this season. The Porsche factory driver is a three-time winner of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, taking the overall victory with TRG in 2003 and taking GT honors for that team in 2002 and 2009.
Bergmeister’s five DP victories include the 2006 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, co-driving with Boris Said.
