Web Rumors Suggest Ultra-Hardcore GT3 RS ‘LE’ Is On The Way
Rumors are running wild on the internet that Porsche is preparing an ultra-hardcore 911 as the final iteration of the 997-generation car, before the all-new, ‘991’ series arrives toward the end of this year. Porsche has been known to offer special editions based on outgoing models and are typically rolled out toward its end of life.
Although details are scarce at the moment, we did learn from our sources that the new car is likely to be called the 911 GT3 RS “Limited Edition” and will be based on the current 911 GT3 RS except with a 4.0-liter version of the flat six rather than the 3.8-liter. It could sport a 500HP powerplant, a 50HP increase over the current GT3 RS. A limited run of 500 cars is expected.
The web rumor mill also suggests that the GT3 RS Limited Edition could mark the debut of Porsche’s new so-called ‘PDK-S’ gearbox, a more sports-oriented version of the company’s twin-clutch transmission, which is widely expected to be available on the next-generation of 911 GT3 models.
Right now the 2011 GT3 RS Limited Edition is still very much a rumor – but word has it that an announcement will be made in early April when the official details of the car might be revealed.
Stay tuned for more details!
