Sports car veteran Butch Leitzinger returns to Alex Job Racing (AJR) for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) presented by Tequila Patron Northeast Grand Prix to be run at Lime Rock Park on July 9. Leitzinger will partner AJR regular Bill Sweedler in the No. 23 Battery Tender/Robert Graham/William Rast/AJR/Porsche.
AJR is coming off of a second place run at Long Beach over two months ago. The team is ready for the remaining 75% of the ALMS schedule following the Le Mans break. Team owner Alex Job has recruited sports car ace Leitzinger for next weekend’s race. Leitzinger drove for AJR last year in the first four races, winning two of those at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Long Beach Grand Prix.
“I’m really happy that Alex and Bill have invited me to join them for Lime Rock,” Leitzinger said. “I really enjoyed the races that I drove for Alex and Holly last year, and they have put together a top-tier team. Bill was my teammate for those races, and I saw how driven and motivated he was, and I know that we will be very competitive on the weekend.”
Leitzinger, from Rebersburg, Pennsylvania, counts Lime Rock as his favorite track. “Lime Rock is my favorite circuit. I love the layout, although the new chicanes have been a disappointment, I also love atmosphere at the track, the fans, and the area in general. I always look forward to going to Lime Rock. I’ve been fortunate to have some success at Lime Rock. I’ve had wins in IMSA and Grand Am, as well as in NASCAR. I also won a BMX race at Lime Rock when I was 11 years old.”
Team owner Alex Job is pleased to have Leitzinger back in his car. “Regular driver Leh Keen has a prior commitment, so Butch is a natural call for us,” Job said. “Butch is a very level headed professional and with everything that happens at Lime Rock, that is exactly what we need. Bill is very comfortable with Butch as a teammate and this is really a seamless call for us to make. With all his miles and success around Lime Rock we are looking forward to a strong weekend.”
The American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix from Lime Rock Park can viewed live on ESPN3.com starting at 1:50 p.m., July 9 with a tape delayed televised program airing on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. ET, July 10.
